Be More Successful at Work Ask These 5 Questions

Written by Kati | Jan 21, 2015 9:45:45 PM

By the end of the day we are all excused and loose sight of our successes. However, you shouldn’t let that be an excuse to not do your best at work! As you get back into your daily routine, take a moment to review the by asking yourself these five questions. It’s a great way to reflect on your accomplishments, ensure you’re reaching your career goals and plan for the ahead.  1. What was my biggest win?

Did you pick up a new skill? Did you contribute to a larger, company wide project? Are you having a hard time thinking of something from work but you’re really proud of a personal accomplishment? Put pen to paper and write them all down then pick your favorite. Figuring out your biggest win will help you identify where you’ve grown and also help you identify your passions.

2. Who is on my team?

You’ve probably heard the saying, “it takes a village to raise a child.” The same is true for our careers – it takes a network of supporters, mentors and friends to help us fulfill our true potential in any job we have. Think about the people that surround you at work, home and any extra activities you participate in. Who are the people that really help you? Push you? Make you think? Cheer you on? Those are the people you should take the time to thank and make a point to surround yourself with.

3. Whose team was I on?

Support works best on a two way street. Ask yourself, “Who was I there for the past year?” As you review your own actions, you might start to notice you only really helped one department within your company or only stepped it up for your superiors. Realizing where you gave your support will help you be more conscious of who else you should be trying to assist in the coming year.

4. What do I still need to finish?

It’s impossible for us to complete every goal or project, so take time to regroup and prioritize. List the projects you’ve yet to close and make a decision on whether or not you should continue to put energy into pursuing completion. Spending time on projects that are no longer a priority is a waste of time. However, it’s also important to remember to make sure valuable ones aren’t left undone. Always be sure you’re working smarter, not harder.

5. What am I most excited about next?

What are you most looking forward to? If you have a lot of things coming up, put them on your schedule and make sure you have set times to pay attention to details. If there are big personal milestones (getting married, having a baby, etc.), plan time to truly appreciate those moments as well. If you can’t think of anything, find something! Plan a trip, sign up for a class or create an exciting event for yourself that will better you as an individual or employee.

Plan for success by knowing more about yourself. The more you know about yourself and the way you spend your days, the easier it will be to improve, grow and reach your goals! Tell us how you are going to be more successful at work! Tweet us @kavaliro!
