With so many different generations and personalities in the workplace, why doesn’t the “one-size-fits-all” strategy work? 

The “one size fits all” strategy will not work because each employee has different needs.  Whether they’re a Baby Boomer or Millennial, each individual will have different goals and perceptions of corporate culture. Corporations must adapt to formulate different approaches to seal the generational gaps and diverse personality traits for all employees to thrive and be happy in a corporate culture.

  • Millennials have been raised in the technology era and yearn to have information immediately accessible. They’re driven by social networking and thrive in interactive situations.
  • Gen X, or Baby Boomers, were raised to work hard and be independent at an early age. Structured environment, opportunities to advance within corporation, liberal management styles and competitive benefits are all appealing to working Boomers.
  • Introverts avoid being outspoken in the workplace. They’re typically characterized as thinkers who prefer to be in an environment where they can listen and make an informed decision. They like one-on-one reviews, built-in time for innovative thinking and anonymous workplace improvement surveys.
  • Extroverts thrive in an environment of constant contact with other individuals. They’re best in an open office environment with many opportunities to build relationships. Networking events, volunteer opportunities and company events are their forte.
