The big day finally arrived last Wednesday, March 16, when the University of Central Florida’s Athletics Department made history by opening the Wayne Densch Center for Student-Athlete Leadership. The three-story, 22,500-square-foot building will house the school's compliance department, academic services and student-athlete welfare and development. The center will also serve as the parent group for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Two years and $6.5 million dollars later, the project was finalized with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting which took place in front of the new center. Kavaliro was chosen among others who donated on the Leadership Council to join in the event in honor of the
center.
“Kavaliro was honored to be a part of this incredible ceremony,” says Mark Moore, president of Kavaliro. “The new Leadership Center is essential for giving the best educational and competitive experience to athletes at the University of Central Florida. We could not be more grateful for the opportunity to join UCF on this special occasion.”
With this new building comes many upgrades for academics within the athletics department. The Student-Athlete Leadership Institute will play a huge role in fostering and developing the skills necessary for current and former student-athletes in order for them to compete for and obtain the most competitive post-graduate opportunities.
The new academic services center will include:
- Tutor rooms (14 individual rooms)
- Mentor rooms (12 individual rooms)
- Technology center (50 computer work stations)
- Advisor offices (12 individual offices)
- Resource center
- Classroom (capacity for 30)
- Classroom/convocation space (capacity for 200)
- Conference Room
The Wayne Densch Center for Student-Athlete Leadership is newest addition to UCF’s ever-growing campus and plans to make a huge impact on the athletic community.
