Orlando, FL - January 25, 2011 - Diane Mahony, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Orlando based staffing firm Kavaliro, was appointed to the board of directors of Aloma High School, Chancery High School, and Sheeler Charter High School late last week. The three schools are approved and accredited charter schools, serving as institutional alternatives to the traditional, district-based, public high school options within Orange County. The appointment is a natural fit for Mahony, who has an extensive leadership experience within the Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) system.
As a board member, Mahony will help to guide the organizational direction of the three schools, all of which share a common mission of meeting the needs of at-risk students through an innovative academic design and schedule. The foundation of their educational program is a teacher-directed, mastery-based, and technology-enhanced learning environment, designed specifically to address each student’s unique and diverse learning needs. Serving students aged 16 to 21, the schools provide alternative scheduling options to students as they work towards earning a high school diploma.
Board Chairman Ron Goss said of Mahony’s appointment: “We're excited to have Diane as a member of the board. We believe that her energy and experience will be an asset to our schools and our students.”
Mahony, who holds a Master of Education degree through the Lockheed Martin/UCF Academy for Mathematics and Science, brings with her greater than eight years of experience as an educator within the OCPS system. A former Teacher of the Year, her leadership capacities include past stints as department chair and school renaissance chair, along with various other committee and board positions. For the past several years, Mahony has served as the chief executive for Kavaliro, where she has been a driving force behind many successful corporate initiatives. She has also overseen all financial reporting, planning, and analysis for the company.
Mahony had this to say of her recent appointment: “It is a great honor to have been selected as a board member for the Aloma, Chancery, and Sheeler Charter Schools. I will do all that I can to guide them in helping at-risk students attain one of life’s most precious gifts; a quality education.”
