This week, Kavaliro’s own David Gilcher, Kelly Babb, Victor Gray and Noelle Cipollini hosted an interview workshop for a group of students in the running for Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year award. The Youth of the Year award is given to the high school student who has met personal challenges head-on and given back to their Club and community.
“As recruiters, we spend every single day reviewing resumes, talking to potential candidates and coaching people on how to interview better – talking to these kids about that was easy,” said Kelly Babb. “However, the questions these students have to answer for this award are tougher than most interview questions. The obstacles these students have faced are bigger than most of the things people have to deal with, and it was inspiring to listen to how they’ve overcome adversities.”
The Kavaliro team prepared the candidates for the official award interview by asking questions about their leadership skills, goals, extracurricular activities and involvement in school and the Boys & Girls Club.
“Based on my conversations with each of them, I could tell that they are passionate and ready to make a difference. Interviewing them was an amazing experience and I believe each and every one of them has a good chance of winning,” said David Gilcher.
After the interview sessions, the Kavaliro team held a roundtable Q&A with the candidates to answer any last questions about what to expect in the interview.
“These young adults are phenomenal,” said Noelle Cipollini. “They’re so active at school, the Boys & Girls Club and at home. It’s inspiring to see how involved they are despite everything they’ve been through. I'm excited to see the amazing things they all do!”
