LinkedIn can be an extremely beneficial tool when it comes to your job search. You’re able to set yourself apart from the crowd, connect with the right people and ultimately, land yourself a dream job. In honor of Kavaliro reaching 5,000 followers on LinkedIn, this week’s blog post is devoted to sharing some helpful tips to make your LinkedIn profile catch the eye of your ideal employer.
One of the first things an employer sees when they click on your profile is, you guessed it, your photo. This photo is extremely important, as it is a way to display your professionalism, which is what employers are generally looking for when they are seeking out candidates. When you take a professional headshot, dress like you are about to walk into an interview. Also, make sure the photo is clear, crisp and is taken from the shoulders up.
If you are currently unemployed and looking for a job, a unique way to stand out amongst the many other LinkedIn profiles is to update your headline with what kind of job you are actively seeking. Your headline is something that is not only seen on your profile, but also shows up with your picture on a user’s newsfeed. Therefore, if an employer is scrolling through LinkedIn and comes across a headline stating “Seeking a job in XYZ,” for example, chances are they are going to take a deeper dive into your profile.
Something else to keep in mind is that the skills included on your LinkedIn page should fit the job you are seeking—kind of like what you would do on your resume. This way, if an employer comes across your profile, it will be clear that you are qualified in that particular field. Be sure to accept any skill endorsements you receive from your connections. The more endorsements you have, the better. According to Kavaliro’s Managing Partner, Bill Peppler, “It’s hard to know how meaningful that will be in the long run, but to me, it makes them one of the most influential people in that region for what they do.”
The final tip is to connect, connect, connect! A huge part of LinkedIn is networking and making connections. If you are interested in a specific job, don’t hesitate to connect with the hiring manager on LinkedIn. This will help you to stand out by showing your interest in the company.
LinkedIn is a great way to get your foot in the door and stand out in the crowd—take advantage of it. Be sure to head to Kavaliro’s LinkedIn page to stay up-to-date on the latest industry trends and job openings! Thank you to all of our followers for helping us reach out goal of 5,000 followers!
