Consultant of the Month: David DeBruce

We are thrilled to have the opportunity to highlight David DeBruce as our Consultant of the Month for September! 🎉

David DeBruce

David was born in Takoma Park, MD, grew up in Lanham, MD and currently resides in Washington, D.C. near the Wharf. He brings a unique blend of technical and soft skills to our Federal Services Division in his role as a data scientist. While he has been a data scientist for several years, his career trajectory began with him going to school for nuclear engineering.

After transitioning from a traditional nuclear engineering position supporting commercial nuclear power plants, he had the opportunity to work as a nuclear SME in diverse industries. In these roles, he learned the power of data. The data scientists had the most significant impact on the organization due to their ability to analyze large amounts of information, automate complex workflows, and discover obscure patterns. He started with some self-study, completed a bootcamp, and never looked back.

As for his favorite part of the job, that would be balancing his technical and soft skills. He learned early on that even the most advanced and compelling solution may not succeed if you can't communicate how and why it would benefit the organization. David explains, “I enjoy starting from a blank piece of paper then designing and implementing technical solutions from the ground up while facilitating stakeholder engagement and change management along the way. I also enjoy helping clients incorporate cutting-edge technology, including generative AI (GenAI) and large language models (LLMs).”

The Federal Services Resource Manager that nominated David had this to say, “David has consistently proven to be an exceptional data scientist with our company, exemplifying professionalism and unwavering dedication. He meticulously adheres to compliance protocols and demonstrates a strong commitment to his responsibilities. His enthusiasm was further evident when he was among the few who attended our recent event in Virginia, reflecting his genuine enthusiasm for our company’s growth and success.”

David's greatest pride is his ability to educate clients and explain to them how data science can be leveraged in their organization. to develop robust and trusted capabilities that deliver valuable insights and support strategic decision-making.

Outside of work David has a love and passion for music and music production. Attending live shows is among his favorite pastimes.  As a fun side project, he has recently started diving into game development, specifically game AI. This allows him to use his skills in C++, SFML, and Unreal Engine. This new project is a bit outside of the normal world of data science because game AI provides instant visual feedback and a playground for creativity and experimentation while data science can sometimes be a bit abstract. Games have historically been a proving ground for AI algorithms to be developed, tested, and refined, game development has only deepened his understanding of AI and problem-solving.

If you’re interested in a career in data science, David has a piece of sage advice for you, “Do it. There are numerous resources available, from short online courses to comprehensive bootcamps. Those who understand data today will run the world tomorrow.”

David’s exceptional expertise along with his commitment to client success truly exemplifies the core values of our company. We are privileged to have him onboard.

Congratulations to David DeBruce on being our Consultant of the Month for September!
